About Us

Over 12 million kids in Africa have been orphaned by AIDS. Worldwide over 100 million kids live on the street. And 300,000 children in Haiti are slaves. But American news rarely covers the suffering faced by millions of kids around the world. It's time we let them tell their own stories to raise awareness of the challenges they face and generate a global audience of supporters who will help to end the suffering.

J.U.M.P. began as an idea several years ago after I visited a home for street kids in Haiti.

The purpose of JUMP is to encourage high school students in developed countries to partner with youth in developing countries and together create media products that will have a positive impact on their lives.

Our first U.S. JUMP club is on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, at Island School.  Each year JUMP will focus on one main issue affecting teens’ lives. This year our focus is on teens and AIDS in Africa. Our partners are four youth groups in Kenya, comprised of young people who have been affected by or infected with HIV/AIDS. They are already engaged in awareness-raising projects, but by partnering with them to create media projects that will be widely distributed, we can expand their audiences from a few hundred to thousands or even millions.

JUMP will provide concrete experiences demonstrating the power of the media. Young people’s words and partnerships can truly create a more equitable world.
